The Specifics

About the Walker
My name is Romee and I am very proud to say that I was born and raised in San Pedro. I was involved in sports and youth groups throughout my childhood, but it wasn’t until my adult years that I really felt a connection with this town of ours. My favorite place in the world is the Warner Grand Theatre, and it was through my involvement there that I was inspired to embark on this journey of discovery.

I will strive to be entertaining and informative, but will always keep it real.

History
In August of 2009 I set out to walk every street in San Pedro. Over the course of nine months I walked an hour a day, five days a week, and completed my goal June 6, 2010 on the far end of the Cabrillo Beach Fishing Pier surrounded by family and friends. I took over 10,000 pictures, wrote over 1200 posts and made hundreds of new friends along the way. After a long hiatus, I am resurrecting the blog to continue the discovery of my favorite corner of the world, San Pedro,CA.

    • Hey Coco – I would love to go for a walk in Pt Fermin when I get down there, but its going to be a while. Send me an email at sanpedrobxb at gmail dot com and I’ll put you on the list!

  2. Have you passed by the ole homestead yet? *sigh* I kinda miss that place. Crestwood, right? How embarassing I have to think twice of my old street name. . .

  3. I grew up in Pedro but left 1991 for college. Thank you so much for this. I miss my childhood home a lot and seeing it through your lens has been so amazing. I grew up on 36th staring straight at Catalina every morning. I think the thing I miss the most is the sunsets and the smell of the ocean… don’t get that in the Midwest. Oh and the cakes from Ramona’s Bakery. LOL. Again, thank you.

    • Thanks so much for your comment Liz! Connecting San Pedrans abroad with their hometown is definitely not something I even thought about when I started SPBXB but I’m SO glad it happened! I’ll probably walk in your old neighborhood in a couple of weeks. Thanks for reading!

  4. Loooove your posts. I keep up with you on FaceBook. Living out of the area, but was a 3rd generation Pedran. I have a couple of pics of the old family store “Bradford’s” from 408 W. 6th Street circa 1966-ish if you’d like me to send them, please let me know. THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!

  5. Has Bite by Bite visited Neil’s Pasta and Seafood Grill on 5th Street? It’s a piece of Italy in San Pedro and the owner is Italian (37 year resident of San Pedro).

    • I haven’t been there yet. I’m going to continue that part and I am definitely looking forward to it!

  6. Hi Romee,
I was just talking with your mom about your journey. I love how you are bringing the history San Pedro to a forum where all generations can enjoy. Your idea to walk San Pedro makes me now want to retrace you steps. Thanks for your vision!

  7. Just wanted to say thank you for all your efforts at bringing out the best of San Pedro. I just moved here a year ago, and I’ve loved getting to know the city through your blog. Thanks!
